Objective: To investigate the effect of VEGF antibody on shock in scalded rats. Methods: Eighty-eight rats were randomly selected as the study subjects, of which 8 rats were set as the pre-treatment group and the other 80 rats were evenly divided into the treatment group (n=40) and the control group(n=40) according to the random number table. Models of third-degree scalds were made in the treatment group and control group, followed by the tail vein injection of l mL VEGF antibody diluent in the treatment group and the tail vein injection of l mL normal saline. The serum VEGF levels of the scalded rats in the two groups were monitored at 2,8, 24, 48 and 72 h post injury respectively. Results: The serum VEGF levels of rats in the treatment group at 2,8, 24, 48 and 72 h post injury were (8.82±0.51) pg/mL, (16.79±7.01) pg/mL, (22.79±5.09) pg/mL, (29.81±3.91) pg/mL and (30.68±5.45) pg/mL respectively, significantly being lower than the corresponding (138.97±7.59) pg/mL, (159.47±2.75) pg/mL, (171.43±15.23) pg/mL, (173.03±12.43) pg/mL and (189.23±6.41) pg/mL in the control group, and the comparison between them showed statistically significant difference (P<0.01). Conclusion: The early-stage application of VEGF antibody injection into the scalded rats can remarkably decrease the expression level of VEGF in scalded rat serum, and further reduce the vascular permeability and the exudation, and it is thus speculated that VEGF antibody may prevent the development and progress of burn shock, which should be further investigated in future studies.
