【Abstract】 Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of Chinese Medicine foot bath in combination with Moist Exposed Burn Ointment (MEBO) in the treatment of Wagner grade 1 or 2 diabetic foot ulcers. Methods Ninety patients with diabetic foot ulcer (Wagner grade 1 or 2) admitted to Wound Repair Department of The Second Hospital of Dalian Medical University between July 2015 and December 2016 were randomly distributed into a treatment group (45 patients) and a control group (45 patients). Patients in the treatment group were treated by the Chinese Medicine foot bath followed by the external application of MEBO while patients in the control group were treated by the Chinese Medicine foot bath followed by the external application of Vaseline gauze. The wound healing time and clinical outcomes were observed and compared between the two groups. Results The wound healing time in the treatment group was (14.24±3.17)d while that in the control group was (21.56±4.82)d; after two weeks of treatment, in the treatment group 12 patients were cured, and the therapy was markedly effective in 18 patients, effective in 14 patients and ineffective in 1 patient with a total effective rate of 97.78%, while in the control group 7 patients were cured, and the treatment was markedly effective in 17 patients, effective in 9 patients and ineffective in 12 patients with a total effective rate of 73.33%. The comparison between the two groups in terms of wound healing time and healing effect showed statistically significant differences (both P<0.05). Conclusion Treating diabetic foot ulcers (Wagner grade 1 and 2) with the Chinese Medicine foot bath in combination with MEBO can effectively reduce the wound healing time and improve the patients’ outcomes, which can be promoted in clinical practice.
