【Abstract】 Objective To investigate the efficacy of MEBO in the treatment of postoperative wounds of primarysuture for dog bites at the oral and maxillofacial region. Methods 86 pediatric patients with dog bites at the oral and maxillofacial region, admitted to The Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University from May 2016 to May 2019, were enrolledand divided into experiment group (n =43) and control group (n =43) using random number table. The dog bite wounds in experiment group were treated with the dressing change of MEBO after the primary suture, whereas the control group were treated with routine surgical dressing change. The infection occurrence, facial function score and scar hyperplasia were compared between the two groups. Results The postoperative infection rate in experiment group was 2. 33%, obviously lowerthan 13.95% in control group (χ2 =3.888, P =0. 049). After treatment, the facial function score in experiment group was(3.57 ±0.53) points, significantly higher than (3.22 ± 0.58) points in control group (t = 2.921, P = 0.005), and thescar scale score in experiment group was (2.67 ±0.96) points, markedly lower than (3.38 ±1.17) points in control group(t =3. 206, P =0.002). Conclusion Treatment of postoperative wound of the primary suture for dog bites at the oral and maxillofacial region with MEBO showed high efficacy in improving the facial functions and appearance of patients, and decreasing the postoperative infection rate. |
