【Abstract】 Hypertrophic scars are fibro-proliferative disorders resulting from hyperplasia of connective tissues during the repair process following deep tissue injury to the skin, such as burns, frostbite, or surgery, which not only affect the aesthetic appearance of patients, but also can lead to symptoms like itching, pain, and limb contracture, significantly impacting their quality of life. Currently, the mechanism underlying the formation of hypertrophic scars remains not fully understood. It is generally believed to be associated with excessive inflammatory responses caused by the imbalance of cytokines and related molecules during the process of wound repair, as well as excessive proliferation of fibroblast (FB) and deposition of the extracellular matrix (ECM). In recent years, some studies have suggested that Danshen extracts (such as Danshinone ⅡA, Cryptotanshinone, and Salvianolic acid B) may suppress scar hyperplasia by inhibiting pro-inflammatory cell activity, anti-angiogenesis, and anti-FB proliferation. Based on this, this article elaborated on the impacts of Danshen extracts on hypertrophic scarring, particularly in the aspects of regulating inflammation, and inhibiting FB proliferation and angiogenesis, to provide a theoretical basis for the further application of Danshen in hypertrophic scars.
