【Abstract】 Objective To investigate the effect of ankle pump exercise combined with resistance training in rehabilitating diabetic foot of elderly patients. Methods 66 elderly patients with diabetic foot, admitted into the Shangqiu Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine from October 2020 to October 2022, were enrolled as research subjects and divided into study group (n = 33) and control group (n = 33). Patients in the study group were managed with ankle pump exercise combined with resistance training, while patients in the control group were managed with resistance training alone. The wound area, ankle brachial index (ABI), and blood flow velocity of dorsalis pedis artery of patients were compared between the two groups. Results After one month of intervention, the wound area of patients was (3.45±1.32) cm2 in the study group, significantly smaller than (5.98±1.41) cm2 in the control group (t = 7.525, P<0.001); the ABI of patients in the study group was (1.18±0.12), significantly higher than (0.93±0.11) in the control group ( t = 8.963, P<0.001); and the blood flow velocity of dorsalis pedis artery was (7.63±0.75) cm/ s in the study group, significantly faster than (6.38±0.42) cm/ s in the control group (t = 8.544, P<0.001). Conclusion Compared with the simple intervention of resistance training, the combined intervention of ankle pump exercise and resistance training can significantly improve the ABI of elderly patients with diabetic foot, increase their blood flow velocity of dorsalis pedis artery, and thus promote wound healing. |
